New 7 deadly sins... are you guilty???

Drug pushers, the obscenely rich, environmental polluters and “manipulative” genetic scientists beware – you may be in danger of losing your mortal soul unless you repent.

After 1,500 years the Vatican has brought the seven deadly sins up to date by adding seven new ones for the age of globalisation. The list, published yesterday in L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, came as the Pope deplored the “decreasing sense of sin” in today’s “securalised world” and the falling numbers of Roman Catholics going to confession.

The Catholic Church divides sins into venial, or less serious, sins and mortal sins, which threaten the soul with eternal damnation unless absolved before death through confession and penitence.

It holds mortal sins to be “grave violations of the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes”, including murder, contraception, abortion, perjury, adultery and lust.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into Hell”.

Although there is no definitive list of mortal sins, many believers accept the broad seven deadly sins or capital vices laid down in the 6th century by Pope Gregory the Great and popularised in the Middle Ages by Dante in The Inferno: lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride.

Christians are exhorted instead to adhere to the seven holy virtues: chastity, abstinence, temperance, diligence, patience, kindness and humility.

Bishop Gianfranco Girotti, head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, the Vatican body which oversees confessions and plenary indulgences, said after a week-long Lenten seminar for priests that surveys showed 60 per cent of Catholics in Italy no longer went to confession.

He said that priests must take account of “new sins which have appeared on the horizon of humanity as a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalisation”. Whereas sin in the past was thought of as being an invididual matter, it now had “social resonance”.

“You offend God not only by stealing, blaspheming or coveting your neighbour’s wife, but also by ruining the environment, carrying out morally debatable scientific experiments, or allowing genetic manipulations which alter DNA or compromise embryos,” he said.

Bishop Girotti said that mortal sins also included taking or dealing in drugs, and social injustice which caused poverty or “the excessive accumulation of wealth by a few”.

He said that two mortal sins which continued to preoccupy the Vatican were abortion, which offended “the dignity and rights of women”, and paedophilia, which had even infected the clergy itself and so had exposed the “human and institutional fragility of the Church”.

The mass media had “blown up” the issue “to discredit the Church”, but the Church itself was taking steps to deal with it.

Addressing the Apostolic Penitentiary seminar, the Pope said there was “a certain disaffection” with confession among the faithful. Priests had to show “divine tenderness for penitent sinners” and admit their own failings.

“Those who trust in themselves and in their own merits are, as it were, blinded by their own ‘I’, and their hearts harden in sin. Those who recognise themselves as weak and sinful entrust themselves to God, and from Him obtain grace and forgiveness.”

The Pope also complained that an increasing number of people in the secularised West were “making do without God”.

He said that hedonism and consumerism had even invaded “the bosom of the Church itself, deeply undermining the Christian faith from within, and undermining the lifestyle and daily behaviour of believers”.

Eastern Catholics do not recognise the same distinction between mortal and venial sins as the Western or Latin Church does, nor does it believe that those people who die in a state of sin are condemned to automatic damnation.

The original offences and their punishments
Pride Broken on the wheel
Envy Put in freezing water
Gluttony Forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes
Lust Smothered in fire and brimstone
Anger Dismembered alive
Greed Put in cauldrons of boiling oil
SlothThrown in snake pits

for man kind.

Prompt: "If you could invent one thing to help man kind what would it be?"

There are so many issues and situations in this day and age that deserve our attention. Should we stop global warming first, how about the aids epidemic... both are issues which will inevitably harm us. Though, important I am going to go in another direction. I would work towards ending world hunger. Every country has starving children and adults. With the ability to feed themselves, I feel we could rid ourselves of many problems.
1. Reduce violence over food supply
2. Get rid of the militias hoarding the food in Africa

I would invent a new strand of rice, that is self multiplying and purifying.
There for you could drop one grain of rice into a pot and it would make enough
for you family and it would purify the cooking water.

Therefore, we would have more food and safer water.
The malaria epidemic would definitely become less of a risk
and so would the thousands of other diseases spread by water born germs.

Well there you go... you've got the idea now invent it already...

Your special place...

Prompt: "Where do you go when you want to get away from the pressures of Life, Family, Work, etc... write about that place."

When I lived at home, in Lancaster there was nowhere to go.
I would invest my time into re-arranging my room.
That was my salvation.
Now that I am away from that pit of despair...
I find myself at the beach if I want to relax.
There are a few places I like to go.

On West Cliff there are tide pools and it is
really nice to climb down onto the beach
and look at all the sea life.
There is a broken tree at this spots and the roots
stick really far out of the ground so you can sit on them.

Spot number 2 is on Seabright where I use to live.
If you drive down the street from my old house
there is a nice beach.
From here you can see 2 lighthouses and there is
a cliff with ropes around it that you can walk on.
If you are feeling daring you can leave the sanctuary of
the ropes and climb out on the rocks.
There is a weird metal pole on the rocks.
I like to climb to this and then just sit above the ocean
and watch time pass.
I can get a lot of writing done here.

My 3rd destination... I don't actually go to because it's not really mine.
There is a spot under a bridge, near the harbor.
At night it is really quiet and you can hear the boats
and the water lapping against the harbor and it's really nice.
This spot is the farthest away though and I don't go there.
But I like it alot.

Kitty goes purrrrrrr.

My cat is sleeping right on my head.
It is hard to see and type.
I can't fall asleep.
I have work tomorrow at 12...
but alas, I am not asleep.
Oh well.
I am working at the Ice Cream Sundae place tomorrow.
That should be fun.
I wish people would not be so crazy.
Like I wish, I could understand you better.
Or you would let me in more...
I might have met a boy.
Hmm, more on that later.
I've only told one person.
I'll keep it that way...
I'm going to pass out now.
P.S... I no longer hate Facebook!

Breathe in Pink... Exhale Blue.

It's raining it's pouring
my dumb ass cat is snoring.
When I arrived home tonight
a gigantic spider was hanging from
the stairway outside my front door.
UGH.
I mean huge.
Atleast 1.5 inches long.
It's legs were all sprawled out and yucky.
In general, it was just disgusting.

Another generality....
People need to calm down.
Stop worrying so much.
It freaks me out.
If you would just breathe,
calm down and go with the flow.
Life would get better.
Don't sweat the small stuff,
and don't worry about every little thing.
Occupy yourself with thoughts of... well yourself.
When you stop worrying about others, things will fall into place
and then you can put an effort to helping others.
The ones that actually need your help, not the ones,
who you think need your help.
If they want it, they will ask.
If they don't, don't take offense.
Go with the flow man.
Breathe.
Smell the flowers.
Listen to the ocean... or W/E is in your area....Sirens....birds...cats.
Life's a garden dig it.
You just need to RELAX.
You are going to have a stroke... or a major meltdown.

My W33kend.

Well an old friend came to visit.
I walked 5 miles to the beach on saturday.
Shouldn't have been that far... I got lost.
I was in flip-flops the whole time.
That resulted in a huge blister on my foot.
Wearing shorts to the beach.
That resulted in the the back of my legs being
sunburnt pretty bad... very hard to sit.
Should have worn sunblock.
Went to a Demolay installation.
That was nifty!
Congrats EDDIE! OMG what a hottie! haha.
Too young though. Can't touch that... dun nun nun na na~!
Sunday, walked from the lighthouse halfway to Natural Bridges.
Got a few more miles under my belt for the weekend.
It was beautiful. Great way to spend the day.
No we did not smoke... yes it is Santa Cruz.
No we did not partake.
We did however spend time with Nature that day to reflect.
I hiked up these rocky cliff things... once again..
in FLIP-FLOPS.
I cut my toe open. Here is how it went.

*Nicole climbs down staircase to the beach
Mike and anthony follow.
We walk across tide pools, up a little ledge.
Anthony and Mike take off and climb the rocks down to the shore.
They leave Nicole for 15 minutes.
Nicole thinks they will be back
They come from behind.
Down the staircase I originally took to get to the beach mind you.
They had made a big circle....
They say lets go...
I get up to go back to the stairs...
they tell me the city has blocked the stairs off with red wire
and it is illegal to take it down.
We must climb the rocks to the thin sandy trail....
UGH.
I hate heights...
I have horrible balance
and I was in FLIP FLOPS.
So we start climbing these rocks,
Above the ocean...
could have fallen to my death (over dramatizing... just a little)
Finally make it up,
ANthony is all MR. Balance, no hands let me help you!
We make it up to the road.
Mike says, well if you are going to Africa you have to get ready.
That was lesson one for the Peace Corps.
Are you ready for lesson two?
I say sure.
He replies, " just remember, it is not your fucking country."
Then he ranted about not getting and America is better than you complex
while out of the country.
So we turn around and begin our mile hike back to the car...
we pass the stairs I originally took to get to the beach.
NO RED WIRE.
They just wanted me to climb the rocks.
Jerks.
But it was worth it.
My legs were sore yesterday.
But I can't wait to go hike again.
Maybe I will go explore by myself tomorrow.

A cloudy Day.

I need to raise 4,000 dollars!
I found a volunteer program for 8 months.
It is located in Kampala.
I just need to raise the funds.
Lets start a send Nicole to Africa foundation.
I wouldn't even hesitate to leave.
Just pick up and go.
Ciao.
See you in a year... (7months)
Peace.
I applied for the program and
a scholarship.
That would be fantastic.
Goodbye to the shit hole that is America,
hello to Africa. The land that needs our help.

Oh and P.S....
FREE TIBET!
hahaa

Home for a week.

I went back to Lancaster
for a week.
I got her last Saturday
and I am going home tomorrow morning.
It was refreshing to be home for
a little bit, but that is all that I
can take. There are definitely more people
here that I can hang out with, and that
actually WANT to chill. As opposed to
forgetting that I exist...hmmm.
Isn't it nice, when people act oblivious,
and forget you... I just love it!
So anyways, while I was home,
I had a sleepover of the younger girls in rainbow.
I took all the little kids to the poppy preserve.
OMG. It is absolutely beautiful this year.
I worked at the job fair today. OMG. I had to
get up wicked early, but in th end it was ok.
I got to see a lot of my old friends.

But alas I return to Santa Cruz tomorrow!
Farewell Lancaster, Hello Earth Day!
I will definitelyct post you on the happenings
of this weekend. There is going to be
a festival in SC and that should be fun!!!!

As the times change.

Have you ever realized that the older you get,
the worse life get.
Now, not in all aspects. Just one in particular.
The year after I graduated High School is when
I began to realized that as we grow closer to life
we also grow closer to death.
My best friends grandma died when I was in high school
and before that, I had never known anybody personally
that I had to attend a funeral for.
The rest of my high school years went by
w/o anything else happening.
Now as I look back since graduation, so many
of our friends have passed away.
In the last six months alone 5 people
I know have died.
Kids I went to school with, A mentor to IORG, an innocent kid.
It just seems, that in the great wide working of things...
why the hell does shit like this happens.
Girl commits suicide.... well thats what the rumor was.
Remember you said you knew what happened... wrong.
She died from huffing shit that came from her air conditioner.
2 Kids die in a car accident... in the last month alone.
1 amazing lady loses the hardest battle of her life.
This I find the most unfair.
Why make somebody suffer through so much and work so hard
to be taken in the end.
What was the point.
But up a good fight, but on a good face, but in the end.
You're gone.
I am just so sick of everything.
It all drives me crazy.
I will move to an island and live by myself... then not have to worry about it.
But that wouldn't work because, I talk to much and would get bored....
Then where the hell would I be.

So anyways.... in the end
before this turned into some morbid rant.
I just wanted to say, take the time to tell people that
you love them. Time passes too quickly and you might miss the opportunity.

You Say you want a Revolution.... but you aren't willing to change your ways.

Did you know that:
1. 1 Billion people live off of one dollar a day in our world.

2. It would cost 12 billion dollars a year for every child on earth to go to school.

3. We spend 18 billion on makeup each year.

4. We also spend 40 billion on golf...

5. We waste 400 billion on cigarettes.

But we cant cough up 12 billion to educate our youth.
Think of the enormous difference we could make
by helping out these kids.
Educated them about sanitation and disease prevention.
Help teach them how to clean water and how to live.
But you go on and worry about buying new shit for your house
or tanning by the pool... fuck the kids that are dying out there.
I bet you didn't even know it was the NWSA.
National week of Student Action.
Did you do anything?

I'm not high and mighty,
and I too have fallen victim to the trap of conformity.
It is easier to forget and go on with our lives
than worry about the lives of others.
It is becoming harder for me to forget though.
I am reminded daily of the work that needs to be done.
I can't wait to get to help hands on.
1 year and counting.

4. Why do you have to be in control? Just let it go. Calm down.

5. I can only take the ADD in small quantities.

6. Your selfishness really drives me crazy.

7. You aren't the same person you were 6 months ago...

8. Why did we all have to grow apart?

9. Let _______ think for themselves.

10. You don't have to do everything suggested.

11. A revolutionary must have their OWN voice... and speak it.

12. I download 1500 songs because nobody wants to hang out and I am bored.

13. At least at home I had people to hangout w/ every night! ahaha

14. I really hate the old grand deputy of our new area.

15. My lip ring is killing me.

16. Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind.

Waterboarding

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Saturday he vetoed legislation that would ban the CIA from using harsh interrogation methods such as waterboarding to break suspected terrorists because it would end practices that have prevented attacks.

When is our administration going
to recognize that cruel punishment
isn't the way to get things done.
It hasn't worked with Iraq...
it doesn't work with interrogation...
Try civilized communication...
it works wonders.

Vote Obama 08!!!!!!
He will be the change we need.

Progressions....

I have been very happy lately!
I love my classes
My teachers are awesome!
The campus is beautiful
and all of the people I meet are so nice...
plus it is a huge bonus to have Anthony and Amanda
and WIll and janet oh so close!
I was going crazy having no older siblings around.

I bought this purse today!
It is pretty cute...
and totally hold a bunch of crap.
Now I don't have to worry about
my purse falling off my shoulder
anymore, because this one
goes over my head
and I wear it diagonally!
WHOOOHOOO for Hippie clothes!
Yay!

A tribute to my fave band.... SUBLIME!

So as many of you know...
My favorite band is Sublime...
Fuck all you posers that act like you like them...
Ever since I was a little kid and I heard my brother
play Date Rape in his room... I was in Love.
With Brad Knowell that is!
So in the height of my fun in Santa Cruz...
BadFish came to town!
They are a Sublime Tribute band...
along with 3 other amazing bands:
F.U.B.A.R
Skawflaws (reminiscent of early No Doubt)
Westside.

They were all reggae rock groups... similar to Sublime.
They were AMAZING!!!!
Totally awesome.
Especially Fubar... they kicked some major ass!
I think they might be local too... TIGHT!
So anyways, Anthony ( the afore mentioned brother)
and I stood on a bench the whole show
so we could see over the crowds.
When Bad Fish came on... we sang every song.
There were the kids that knew Date Rape, Santeria and What I got of course...
But we new all of them... Pawn Shop, The spanish part in Caress Me down!
It was amazing having the opportunity to sing the lyrics along
with the band that would have made Brad proud.
They definitely did the band justice!
It was Ah-Mazing!
The set list was as follows:
Garden Grove
We are going to Die from our own arrogance
Rivers of Babylon
Wrong Way
Same in the End
SummerTime
STP
Scarlett Begonnias
Ebin
Waitinf for my rucca
40 oz to freedom
Stolen from an Africa Land...
Pawn Shop
Paddle Out
Boss Dj
Bad Fish
"my goodness"
April 26th 1992
Santeria
Caress Me Down
Date Rape
Smoke 2 Joints
Seed
What I got
and
Bro Hymn

It was an amazing show... seriously I can die happy now!
It was that fucking good.
I cant wait to see any of these bands again!!!

Friends from home.

So this weekend, my second best friend
Tierney came to visit.
We went to the Grand Worthy Advisor's Reception
for IORG... check it out at
www.caiorg.org
It is a serivce group I have been in since I was 11.
My sister-in-Law, miss Slice of Pink herself
got me to join, oh so long ago.

SO anyways.
Tierney came to visit.
Our weekend began in Davis
for the reception.

Janet and I, in our "rainbow attire"

Then after the reception on Sunday we headed to Santa Cruz.
Last night, we went to Downtown
and ate at Pizza My Heart, this amazing lil pizza place.
Then we went to the beach, and Logos the amazing used bookstore.
After that we went to some random house party until like 2am.
It was fun and she got to meet a lot of random college people.
People are soo nice up here.
Today before she left we went to Saturns.
It is a local restaurant that serves only vegetarian food.
Tierney is a vegetarian so that was nifty for her
because our home town has nothing like that.
She is now on the road... and alas, I won't see her
until grand assembly in March... :(
Oh well, all-in-all. The weekend was fun!

1 week anniversay.

I bit the bullet...
I took the jump,
I finally did it.
I got a tattoo...
well actually two of them.
One week into my new life in NorCal
I got my tattoos.
EMJ and I went to Staircase,
a local place and got my wrists done!

On another note, the beach is 1.2 miles
from my house!
I drove it today and marked out the mileage!
yay!

I will get pics up as soon as I can!
They are on my myspace though in the folder
called moving to NorCal... so go check it out there.
On wrist says Love, with a lil red/black heart
and the other wrist says Peace.

and still no charger.

While packing up my room at home,
I put my charger somewhere.
Now I can't find it.
My phone died the first night I was here.
This kinda sucks.
I tried to buy one yesterday...
couldn't find a t-mobile and
then I went to circuit city, radioshack
and costco... none of them had it...
my sidekick is doomed to remain dormant.

Back with style.

So my first day!
After arriving in Santa Cruz at like Midnight Wednesday morning I went straight to bed. I got up around 10 and decided to get ready and go to Downtown. I walked around, went to an amazing thrift store. Where I bought an adorable and very cheap, white polka dot purse! It is super cute. Then I went to Logo's, the used bookstore and bought a Beatles book. I want to one day have the largest collection of Beatles books! I am up to six now! Go me! Considering I only started 2 months ago that is pretty good. So anyways moving onward. While walking around in Downtown, I met a local, who lives on the streets outside 7-11, but decided to venture to downtown. He told me that he was Eric Clapton and obsessed with the number 48. He asked if I had a pen, so I gave him mine and he told me that we could be friends and he was going to write a new song! I thanked him for being so nice and proceeded onward. I then stopped at the Catalyst! The local place for shows. On the 19th they are having a SUBLIME tribute! What... yeah as in my fave band! HOly Crapola! Yeah! I can't wait! So after being super stoked I went back to Anthony and Amanda's because Mandi was going to get off of work. So we hung out and went and looked at a few apartments. Then I went back to downtown to hang out with my friend EmJ who works at the local borders. We hung out and then I decided to go home until she got off work at 10ish. ON my way back to the car, I met another street dweller. This one played Beatles songs on his guitar! HE was AMAZING. He totally made my night. I sat with him for at least 20 minutes. He said that I could be his Lucy, like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It was very sweet. I finally got back to my car and went home. Then I decided to go out! But that story can be saved for tomorrow's blog! I kinda want to try and convince my brother to put on Across the Universe instead of The Departed!
Much Love
Peace!
